SEA-LAND RESTRUCTURES DIVISIONAL ORGANIZATION

SEA-LAND RESTRUCTURES DIVISIONAL ORGANIZATION

Sea-Land Service is implementing a new corporate organization that will
focus on geographic regions and dismantle its traditional divisional
structure.
A spokesman for Sea-Land said that the Pacific, Atlantic and Americas
divisions are being replaced by four regional units responsible for all
inbound and outbound trades to or from a particular region. Each unit will
be headed by a senior executive.
The four regions defined by Sea-Land, and their executives heading each:
North America, Ed Aldrige, senior vice president; the Americas, Dan McHugh, vice president; Asia, Bill Flynn, vice president; and Europe/Mideast, Jay Keegan, senior vice president.
The move from trade route-based divisions to regional management is
designed to meet the requirements of customers for a more global service,
Sea-Land said.
Coordination of a given trade route, previously carried out by a
division, will now be done by "tradelane managers."
The changes are part of the restructuring of Sea-Land into three
separate companies with their own president and financial results — an
international shipping unit, a domestic shipping unit and a terminals unit
In the mid-1990s, Sea-Land had centralized all three divisions in its
Charlotte, N.C. corporate headquarters.
