Sea Star to raise bunker charges

Sea Star Line, the Jacksonville-based Puerto Rico trade specialist that also offers service to other Caribbean islands, will raise its bunker surcharges for Puerto Rico and the Eastern Caribbean.

   The increased surcharge from Jacksonville and Port Everglades to Puerto Rico, effective Aug. 12, will be $375 (from $350) for 20-foot containers, $420 (from ($390) for 40-footers, and $455 (from $420) for 48-foot and 53-foot containers. For automobiles, the charge will be $165 (from $155).

   The surcharge from Jacksonville and Port Everglades to the eastern Caribbean, effective Sept. 2, will be $415 (from $390) for 20-foot containers, $460 (from $430) for 40-foot and 45-foot containers, and $495 (from $460) for 48-foot and 53-foot containers. For automobiles, the charge will be $175 (from $165).

   Sea Star also moves 40- and 45-foot containers from Port Elizabeth in the Port of New York-New Jersey. The Puerto Rico surcharge will increase to $430 from $390, while the eastern Caribbean surcharge will increase to $470 from $430.
