Seaboard ships donated computers to Guatemala

Seaboard Marine has joined forces with Wal-Mart and the Sergio Paiz Foundation (FUNSEPA) to move donated computers from the United States to Guatemala as part of a project to improve educational opportunities for Guatemalan children.

Seaboard said it provided a special donation shipping rate for 1,731 computers donated to FUNSEPA by Wal-Mart USA. FUNSEPA is founder of the 'Technology to Educate' program in Guatemala. This year's donations will put computers into 108 schools with more than 35,000 children. The computers were shipped from Seaboard's Houston terminal. Seaboard is based in Miami.

Seaboard 'is very proud to have collaborated and donated our shipping services as true partners with Wal-Mart USA, Wal-Mart Central America, and FUNSEPA,' said Jose Perez-Jones, Seaboard senior vice president. 'In gladly transporting Wal-Mart's donation, Seaboard feels it has opened a door for these children in Guatemala to enjoy a brighter and more focused education using modern technology.'
