Seaspan may order big ships    Seaspan Corp. is in discussions with several Chinese and Korean shipyards regarding the acquisition of up to 10 new ships of about 10,000-TEU capacity each, for delivery in 2013 and 2014, the company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last week.
   Seaspan, which charters containerships to liner companies such as China Shipping and Hapag-Lloyd, said the deal is subject to agreement on a purchase price and other terms acceptable to Seaspan. “A letter of intent has not been signed between the parties and there is no assurance that Seaspan will enter into a letter of intent or complete the transaction,” the company said.
   The ships “would have an innovative design that focuses on improving loadability and fuel efficiency,” the company added.
   Seaspan has 57 containerships in operation and 12 containerships scheduled for delivery through March 2012.
