Non-operating vessel owner Seaspan Corp. has ordered two 2,500-TEU vessels from Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China for about $46.4 million per vessel.

The two ships will be delivered in March and June 2010, and will be chartered to “K” Line for $17,880 per day over the period of a 10-year agreement.

“We are very pleased to expand our customer base by adding another major Japanese line to our portfolio,” said Gerry Wang, Seaspan’s chief executive officer. “This acquisition also expands our relationship with Jiangsu as we now have 10 2,500 TEU vessels in line to be delivered over the next three years from this shipbuilder.”
