Seattle CBP office finds pests in shipments from China, India In the second incident in a month, federal inspectors at the Port of Seattle have reported finding banned pests in shipments of building materials from India and China.
   The most recent incident occurred Oct. 22, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents sent back a container of tractor parts from India after finding bark beetles and pinhole bark borer weevils in the shipment's packing materials.
   On Oct. 1, CBP agents found adult snails in a container of slate, granite and tiles from China. It was the first time the snails had been discovered at a U.S. port of entry. The shipment, which had arrived at the port on Sept. 21, was allowed to continue to its destination after treatment with pesticide.
   CBP agents also found snails and the larvae of wood wasps, long-horned beetles and bark beetles in the wood packing material of a second container of slate from the same Chinese firm.
