Seattle port to consider port truck parking facility

Seattle port to consider port truck parking facility Port of Seattle commissioners today will consider a $5 million plan to create a truck parking facility within the port in an attempt to limit truck impacts on surrounding neighborhoods.
   The 10-acre facility would be located at the port's Terminal 10 and provide parking for 250 trucks. The commissioners are expected to vote today to approve an initial outlay of $450,000 for design and permitting work on the project. The full $5 million cost of the project also includes required site improvements such as upgraded drainage, soil and groundwater cleanup and ensuring compliance with storm water regulations.
   Once approved, the port estimates the project would take a year to complete.
   Despite the costs, port and city officials consider the site a temporary solution to reducing truck traffic through nearby communities. The officials, who have been working for some time on a permanent solution, vowed to continue moving forward with the effort.
