The measures include going forward with the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement and legislation granting permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) to Vietnam.
If approved by the full Senate, the Peru agreement will make permanent trade benefits granted to Peru by Congress in 1991 under the Andean Trade Preference Act, said U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, who applauded the Senate Finance Committee’s work to gain the approvals.
By granting Vietnam PNTR status will move the Asian country another step closer to becoming a full member of the World Trade Organization.
“I look forward to working with congressional leaders when lawmakers return from the August recess to bring these measures to the president for his signature,” Schwab said.
