Shaw promoted to SOSREP in U.K.
Hugh Shaw has been appointed as the Secretary of State’s Representative in the United Kingdom.
The SOSREP’s role is to oversee salvage operations within U.K. waters and if necessary intervene and exercise “ultimate command and control” when there is significant risk of pollution.
Shaw has been deputy to the SOSREP since 2004 and will take over from the retiring Robin Middleton on Jan. 1.
Middleton has served as SOSREP since October 1999 and was widely praised for his handling of the MSC Napoli incident off the Devon Coast in January this year. During his eight years service Middleton has set up 2,917 Salvage Control Units and been involved with 17 major international/national exercises.
