Shekou-Chiwan set up Dongguan container depot    Two Port of Shenzhen container terminals have collaborated to open a depot for empty containers in the manufacturing-heavy city of Dongguan.
   The Dongguan Outside Depot, is being trumpeted by the Shekou and Chiwan container terminals (in western Shenzhen) as a way for exporters to shorten the distance needed to gather empty containers.
   Dongguan is the Pearl River Delta's largest manufacturing area but is located more than an hour's drive from the Shekou and Chiwan terminals, two of the three westernmost terminals in Shenzhen (Da Chan Bay is the other). The terminals have operated other outside depots in various parts of the PRD, but never in the heart of the region's manufacturing hub.
   'This new service will effectively reduce cost of haulage from factory to gateway, shorten the transportation time and distance, which greatly reduces emission of CO2,' the terminals said in a statement.
   The 26,000-square-meter depot is located in the Shatian district of Dongguan.
