Ship blaze extinguished on Miami River
Firefighters were working to put out a fire on a small general cargo ship on the Miami River Tuesday.
The Coast Guard closed the river between the 17th Avenue Bridge and the 27th Avenue Bridge where the vessel Mystic was burning. It said the 206-foot St. Vincent and the Grenadines ship was located east of the 22nd Avenue Bridge on the Miami River.
The Miami Herald said the ship was loading mattresses and vehicles and was scheduled to depart for Haiti on Thursday.
The Coast Guard said there were no reported injuries or pollution, but the Miami Herald said crewmembers who tried to extinguish the blaze were being treated for smoke inhalation.
