Ship registry gets China approval

Ship registry gets China approval

International Register of Shipping (IRS) has received approval from the Chinese government's Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) to open a surveying company in China.

The approval comes as IRS, based in Panama City, Panama, continues to expand its network, especially in Asia and Africa. It has opened new offices in Singapore, Norway and Ukraine in the past year. The company has also received authorization to issue statutory certificates on behalf of the maritime authorities of Kenya, Senegal and Zanzibar.

The company has more than 1,300 ships on its register, with a combined gross tonnage of 7.3 million tons.

IRS (China) will carry out surveys and issue classification and statutory certificates to all types of vessels on PRC territory and its national waters.
