Shipping executive Balling dies

   Niels Kim Balling, 60, a shipping executive and consultant has died.
   Balling was a managing director at Econships, a management advisory for transport and logistics headquartered in Hong Kong.
   He had been a managing director at MISC Integrated Logistics and group vice president at MISC Bhd, a general manager and director at OOCL, and a director at Maersk.
   “An endless stream of experience and knowledge came from Kim’s conversations, presentations, analysis,” said Charles de Trenck, a friend and founder of the advisory firm Transport Trackers, also based in Hong Kong. “He took the time with many of us to explain the dynamics of container shipping. He was a great advocate of looking for new ways to popularize shipping for newcomers. Often he chose to stay in the background. But never was he without view and preferred approach.
