Ships to be moved to breaker in Virginia The U.S. Maritime Administration said two ships under contract to be scrapped at a Baltimore shipyard by North American Ship Recycling, will be recycled at the Bay Bridge Enterprises facility in Chesapeake, Va.
   The World War II-era ships were formerly anchored in the James River Reserve Fleet in Newport News.
   Bay Bridge will receive $95,000 to dismantle the Hoist, a former Navy rescue and salvage ship, and $695,000 to dismantle the Sphinx, a former landing ship that had been converted into a landing craft repair ship.
   MarAd said it terminated its contract with North American Ship Recycling Inc. after receiving notification from the company that it had terminated all operations at the Sparrows Point Shipyard in Baltimore.
   The Baltimore Sun reported earlier this month that a lawsuit had been filed against North American Ship Recycling by a New Jersey company called Clean Ventures.
