Siba Ships orders two Kamsarmax bulk carriers from STX

Siba Ships has ordered two 81,000-deadweight-ton Kamsarmax bulk carriers from Korea’s STX yard for delivery in 2011.

Siba, the Italian ship owning arm of the Balzarini group which specializes in the trading and transportation of livestock, operates 14 Panamax, Kamsarmax and handy bulkers and has a further 15 bulk newbuildings for delivery through 2011.

Commenting on the new order, Mauro Balzarini, Siba’s chairman, said: “We believe this area of the bulk market is the most attractive, as the ships are as flexible as Panamax but offer a bigger lift. Over the last two years we have grown our bulk fleet and our strategy is to continue that expansion in particular niches where we see opportunities.”
