Siemens to open global logistics headquarters in Dubai

The German technology conglomerate unveiled its plans to set up shop at the site of the Expo 2020 Dubai and will provide all levels of logistical services.

German engineering and technology conglomerate Siemens plans to launch a global logistics headquarters in Dubai, including its portfolio for airports, cargo infrastructure and ports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the company said.
Siemens will target the site of the Expo 2020 Dubai as the future location for the headquarters.
“This strategic decision highlights Dubai’s significance as a major player in global transport and logistics, with some of the world’s biggest airlines and ports operating in and around the emirate,” Siemens Board Member and Chief Technology Officer Roland Busch said. “Siemens wants to further expand its operations in order to be close to key customers and markets. The Expo site would be a perfect match, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, infrastructure and technology, coupled with enviable transport connections.”
In addition to the lure of the Expo, the UAE logistics sector is estimated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 5.7 percent between 2015 and 2020, according to market research firm Frost & Sullivan. The headquarters would provide all levels of logistical services, including global management and strategy, innovation, digitalization software development, sales, assembly and production.
“We are committed to contributing to Dubai’s economic development goals with the latest innovations in technology,” Busch said. “By using digitalization and leveraging MindSphere, our open, cloud-based IoT operating system, we support growth and boost efficiencies in logistics.”
