SINGAPORE AIRLINES WILL LAUNCH CARGO UNIT IN JULY

Singapore Airlines has confirmed that it will spin off its cargo operations into a separate unit beginning in July.

Singapore Airlines Cargo Pte. will be one of the world's largest international air cargo carriers, with nine B747-400 freighters in operation and another eight on order. The airline expects to expand its capacity by 10 percent per year for the next five years.

The move should ease cargo integration efforts for the New Global Cargo carriers partners, which include Singapore Airlines Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo and Scandinavian Airlines System. Those three partners set out to build the foundation for a global cargo carrier alliance last year.
