Singapore June volume down 17%
Container volume at the Port of Singapore fell 17 percent in June, to nearly under 2.1 million TEUs, continuing a trend of moribund volume at the world's busiest seaport.
For the year, the port has handled 12.3 million TEUs, down 18.2 percent from the first half of 2008. Throughput has steadily contracted month-to-month since July 2008, when the port handled 2.7 million TEUs. It hit a recent low in February, when it handled 1.8 million TEUs.
