Sinotrans confirms end of transpacific loop
Chinese government-owned Sinotrans Container Lines confirmed to American Shipper that it last month ended its weekly China America Express (CAS) “due to the high cost and lower freight.”
The CAS had used four relatively small for the trade 2,742-TEU ships, calling Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Long Beach, and back to Ningbo. Hanjin Shipping, Wan Hai and FESCO had all taken slots on the CAS.
Sinotrans has instead transferred one of the ships previously on the CAS, “Sinotrans Tianjin,” to join Wan Hai and CSAV Norasia’s weekly Mid-China Transpacific (MTP) loop as a vessel provider.
“Our company will looking for a good chance to build our own vessels or long term charter proper vessels to restart our own transpacific service,” said Chunji Zhao, Sinotrans’ general manager.
