Start-up Canadian carrier Globemaster Air Cargo Ltd. began scheduled service Monday, serving the communities of Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Rainbow Lake, Fort McMurray and Calgary.

The cargo operator has leased a converted Beechcraft 1900C turboprop from Raytheon Airline Aviation Services, according to the Witchita, Kan.-based aircraft refurbishment and management company.

The 1900C is a turboprop with a payload in excess of 5,500 pounds for distances up to 600 nautical miles.

Globemaster operates scheduled as well as irregular routes, and also offers dedicated charters, Raytheon said in a statement.
