SmartWay to launch dray truck initiative
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said that it will publicize a new program to reduce pollution from dray trucks serving ports next Monday.
The EPA said it will discuss its initiative to allow dray trucks to join its SmartWay Transport Partnership at a press conference at the Wando Welch Terminal at the Port of Charleston.
Smartway, launched in 2004, is a program in which carriers and shippers measure their transportation-related emissions and commit to reducing pollution and improving fuel efficiency.
Many large shippers are SmartWay “partners” and they are pledge to increase the amount of freight they ship using SmartWay carriers.
