Snack brand Utz to use LeanLogistics for managed TMS

Pennsylvania potato chip maker will use the web-based system and services to optimize its more than 1,000 transportation lanes from Louisiana to Maine.    The software-as-a-service (SaaS) transportation management systems provider LeanLogistics said Tuesday that the snack brand Utz Quality Foods will use the software company for managed TMS.
The Hanover, Penn.-based company produces millions of snacks per week (about half of which are potato chips) while managing more than 1,000 routes from Louisiana to Maine. In addition, Utz is also a major supplier to warehouse clubs and mass merchandisers nationwide. The company produces, markets, and distributes products developed under brands such as Utz, Bachman, Zapp’s, and “Dirty” Potato Chips.
Utz will use LeanTMS to optimize its transportation processes, including eliminating manual transportation processes by automating all inbound and outbound transportation execution, thereby reducing distribution cost and increasing visibility.
“Utz selected LeanLogistics technology solution based on the scalability of their platform of technology and services,” said Brian Greth, vice president of corporate services at Utz. “LeanLogistics has experience with food manufacturing companies similar to us, and we look forward to leveraging their supply chain expertise and realizing the benefits provided by an innovative SaaS TMS.”
LeanTMS provides complete daily planning, execution and settlement functions as well as periodic strategic procurement events.
“LeanLogistics has a deep understanding of the supply chain challenges organizations like Utz face in today’s transportation market,” said Dan Dershem, president of LeanLogistics. “Our expertise will help Utz collaborate across business units and their supply chain partners.”
