SoCal ports to receive port association environmental award

SoCal ports to receive port association environmental award The American Association of Port Authorities will present its Comprehensive Environmental Management Award to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles at the association's annual convention in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 3.
   The AAPA, comprising 160 public port authorities throughout the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, is presenting the award in recognition of the Southern California ports' San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan. The ports predict that the omnibus plan, if fully implemented, would cut port-generated air pollution by 45 percent within five years.
   This will be the second year the Long Beach port has been named as the recipient of the award. Last year Long Beach received the award for their Green Port Policy, a precursor to the Clean Air Action Plan.
