Somali security forces intercept ransom payment
Somali authorities in the capital of Mogadishu said they seized two small planes carrying $3.6 million in ransom for pirates and detained six foreigners on Tuesday, according to several news agencies.
An official said one of the planes arrived from Nairobi, Kenya. It had the ransom that was to be transferred to the other plane and delivered to pirates holding an unidentified merchant vessel and its crew.
Ransoms are frequently dropped out of planes by parachute to pirates at sea.
