South Carolina gets approval for I-73 section

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Friday it has completed environmental reviews that clear the way for South Carolina to move ahead with plans to build Interstate 73.

With the approval in place, the state can consider financing options and begin construction of this new section of interstate.

DOT has authorized South Carolina to use tolling to pay for the highway.

I-73 will run through northeastern South Carolina, connecting the Myrtle Beach area to North Carolina and extend up through Michigan.
