South Korea canal proposed

   The former mayor of Seoul is making construction of a new canal to connect the northern and southern parts of Korea a plank in his bid to become South Korea’s president.

   According to the newspaper Korea Times, Lee Myung-bak has said he would complete construction of a waterway in four years if elected. The Kyongbu canal project would link the Han River, flowing through Seoul, with the Naktong River near the port city of Pusan.

   The former chief executive officer of Hyundai Engineering and Construction also wants to build another canal in the Cholla provinces.

   Lee reportedly made his remarks during a visit to the Rhein-Main-Donau Kanal in Germany,
