SOUTH SEAS STEAMSHIP CANCELS RATE RISE PLAN

SOUTH SEAS STEAMSHIP CANCELS RATE RISE PLAN

South Seas Steamship Line, the U.S./South Pacific islands
niche carrier owned by the Hamburg-Sud shipping group, has canceled a plan to increase
rates for U.S./Tahiti shipments on Jan. 1.
South Seas Steamship, a member of the Pacific Islands Discussion Agreement,
said that January would not be an appropriate time to follow through with the voluntary
general rate increase announced recently by the discussion agreement.
The other members of the Pacific Islands Discussion Agreement are Polynesia
Line, Far Eastern Shipping Co. and P&O Nedlloyd.
