Southampton Container Terminals expanding

Southampton Container Terminals expanding Southampton Container Terminals Ltd. (SCT), the United Kingdom’s second-largest container terminal, is expanding its boundary by taking on about 10.5 acres of leased land from Associated British Ports, more than a year ahead of schedule.
The land, currently being used for roll-on/roll-off operations, will be handed over in early September. About three acres of the site will require some repaving work as well as the removal of some existing structures.
'This new land, which is in addition to the 13 acres taken on at the start of the year, will take the terminal footprint to over 213 acres,” said Campbell Mason, SCT’s managing director. “We are delighted that ABP has been able to accelerate the availability of this additional land as it will provide us with further capacity to handle the continued high volume of boxes moving through the terminal.'
SCT is a joint venture between Dubai Ports World (51 percent) and Associated British Ports (49 percent).
In a separate development, Grand Alliance carriers Hapag-Lloyd, NYK, OOCL and MISC Berhad have decided to temporarily suspend calls at SCT on their weekly Asia/Europe EU4 service while the terminal finishes civil engineering works needed to install two new 22-containers-wide gantry cranes.
OOCL said the EU4 is likely to resume calls at EU4 by early to mid-September
