Southern Air operates 747 freighter for Ethiopian

   Southern Air Holdings, a provider of ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) aircraft, on Tuesday signed a multiyear Boeing 747-400SF agreement with Ethiopian Airlines. 
   Ethiopian is Southern Air’s first customer for its recently acquired fleet of B747-400 freighter aircraft with operations scheduled to begin in early January. 
   “Our future fleet will be comprised of Southern Air wet leased B747-400 freighter aircraft and B777F freighter aircraft leased/owned and operated by Ethiopian,” said Tewolde GebreMariam, Ethiopian’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “This investment in both wet lease and dry lease/owned aircraft by Ethiopian is a strategic plan that will position us as one of the premier cargo operators in the world.”
