The tanker was constructed in 1958 and is located in the agency's Beaumont Reserve Fleet in Texas. Southern Scrap will remove the vessel within the next 45 days, MarAd said.
MarAd keeps ships at three National Defense Reserve Fleet sites to support military operations and to respond to national emergencies. When the ships become obsolete, the agency arranges for their disposal.
