General cargo shipments were down the most by 48 percent to 1.6 million tons. Grain shipments declined 19.8 percent to 4.9 million tons, other bulk slipped 13.7 percent to 8.1 million tons while coal was down 11.4 percent to 2 million tons. Iron ore was the only commodity to show an improvement rising 4.2 percent to 7 million tons.
Vessel transits for the current navigation season are down 9 percent to 2,443 from 2,684.
