Starzel joins Pacer board

Starzel joins Pacer board    Concord, Calif.-based third-party logistics and freight transportation provider Pacer International Inc. has appointed Robert F. Starzel to its board of directors.
   Starzel is chairman of the San Francisco Newspaper Co., owners of the San Francisco Examiner, and a former executive at Union Pacific Railroad.
   “Bob Starzel has long been a central figure in the North American rail industry, with close ties to the Union Pacific and other railroads and transportation modes. Pacer will benefit from his guidance and expertise as we seek to further strengthen our strategic relationships with the leading North American railroads and transportation providers,” said Don Orris, Pacer’s chairman and chief executive officer.
   At the same time as Starzel’s appointment, Marc Becker, a director representing Pacer’s former equity sponsor Apollo Management, has resigned from Pacer’s board.
