STB ELIMINATES CERTAIN REPORTING FROM CSX, NORFOLK SOUTHERN

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board’s Office of Compliance and Enforcement will end the weekly and monthly operational monitoring reports from CSX and Norfolk Southern regarding the implementation of Conrail merger at the end of June.

'The STB, however, said it would continue require the railroads to file weekly reports for “shared assets areas.”

STB Chairman Linda J. Morgan said that, since the railroads took over Conrail’s operations in June 1999, they have continued to improve their operations. A recent STB report showed a 31-percent improvement to average system terminal dwell time and a 20-percent improvement in average train transits. Corridor on-time performance has been maintained at 80 percent by both railroads.
