Stiff sentences for auto theft ring leaders The ringleaders of a massive South Florida car theft operation in which stolen cars and parts were shipped to the Dominican Republic were sentenced to more than 20 years each in prison Friday in state Circuit Court in Fort Lauderdale.
   Carlos Torres, a 26 year old Dade County man described as the leader of the operation, was sentenced to 26 years, according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Dennis Fernandez, 29, of Dade County, received a sentence of 22 years.
   The auto theft and 'chop shop' operation was broken up after the Broward County Sheriff's Office helped set up a shop for the defendants in Hollywood'then videotaped the activities in the shop.
