Stockton port director named city chamberÆs president
Richard Aschieris, executive director of the Port of Stockton, has a new side job. He was installed last week as the 2007-2008 president of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce.
Aschieris took the oath of office as administered by Stockton Mayor Ed Chavez and assumed his duties during the chamber’s annual installation dinner at the Stockton Golf and Country Club. He replaces outgoing president Charlynn Harless of Legacy Enterprises.
A Long beach native, Aschieris has served as the head of the Stockton port since being hired away from the Port of Anacortes, Wash., in early 2000. Before heading up the Anacortes port in 1997, Aschieris served in several positions at the Port of Long Beach, including stints as foreign trade zone manager and executive secretary to the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Since joining the Stockton port, Aschieris has overseen a massive development program at the inland port, including development of more than 1,500 acres of former Navy property into prime port property.
