Strike closes Port of Buenaventura in Colombia

Chilean ocean carrier CCNI advised Monday that the Colombian National Truck Federation’s call for a national strike has stopped operations in the Port of Buenaventura, forcing it to reroute a vessel on its joint Asia/Mexico/West Coast South America China Express Service/ASPA 1 service with Hamburg Sud.

CCNI said there is no information available regarding the estimated duration of the standstill at the port. As a contingency measure cargo aboard the vessel Cap Manuel (V.828) that should have been unloaded at Buenaventura will continue on to the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas. After this, the vessel will start a new voyage to call again at Buenaventura.

“Considering this situation is force majeure, all costs related to the change of discharge port, should be under customers account. We suggest taking the necessary precautions in order to avoid further inconveniences, particularly with document procedures,” CCNI said.
