Suez Canal posts record monthly revenue in April

The Suez Canal Authority reported record monthly revenue in April of $365.5 million, up 24.2 percent from $294.2 million in the same month last year.

During the month 1,657 vessels transited the international waterway, up from 1,466 a year ago.

The record revenue performance comes just after the start of an average 2.8 percent increase in the SCA’s transit fees. In December, Adm. Ahmed Ali Fadel, chairman of the SCA, said the increase would range from 1.14 percent for passenger ships to 3.73 percent for oil tankers, effective April 1.
