Swissport adds new warehouse at Chicago O’Hare

The ground handling and air cargo services provider’s new 138,000-square-foot facility is equipped with two cold storages, 35 truck docks, and has adjacent aircraft parking with in-ground fueling and power units.

Swissport Cargo USA opened a new warehouse at the Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday.
The 138,000-square-foot facility has an automated material handling system that can accommodate over 120 10-foot unit load devices (ULDs) simultaneously using pallet platforms and electronic ULD movers, Swissport said.
The facility is equipped with two cold storages, one ranging from 2 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius (35.6 degrees Fahrenheit to 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit), and the other ranging from 18 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius (64.4 degrees Fahrenheit to 77 degrees Fahrenheit).
In addition, the facility has 35 truck docks, and features adjacent aircraft parking with in-ground fueling and power units.
The opening of the facility follows the Chicago Department of Aviation reporting that total cargo volumes at the airport surged 15.3 percent year-over-year for the first five months of 2017 to 756,447 tons.
