SynchroNet expands street-turn service

   SynchroNet Intermodal Services (SIS) has expanded its North American street-turn service to include shippers and non-vessel-operating common carriers to increase customer visibility.
   The service, which gives access to a larger container supply at preferred locations, is operated through SIS’ Web-based street-turn interface.
   Street turns, according to SIS, allow companies to decrease container yard and terminal handling costs, improve relationships between importers and exporters, increased use for the shipping lines in areas without actual fleet operations, and strengthen business arrangements with trucking companies.
   ”The emphasis to improve efficiencies through street-turns directly between importers and exporters has grown considerably. Additionally, our shipping line customers have expressed interest to expand our street-turn service for several years,” said Bob Baker, president and chief executive officer of SynchroNet.
   SIS’ repositioning operations handle a surplus of empty containers from inland locations and ports through domestic interchanges and stack-train services. Its match-back capabilities are provided through its street-turn and Export-in-a-Box services.
