Tacoma, Fuzhou in trade office pilot program

Tacoma, Fuzhou in trade office pilot program The Washington state port and city of Tacoma, in conjunction with the Chinese city of Fuzhou, have announced a joint trade program that will see the simultaneous March opening of trade offices in both Tacoma and Fuzhou.
   The ports of Tacoma and Fuzhou already share sister port status, as both cities share sister city status, however the relationships have been largely limited to cultural and educational exchanges.
   The 18-month trade program will see the city and port of Tacoma contribute $100,000 to establish a trade office in Fuzhou, while Fuzhou officials will do the same in Tacoma. The goal of the program is to boost trade between the two cities and ports.
   Tacoma city officials said that while there is no guarantee of increased trade from the exchange, the possible benefits outweighed the investment.
