Taiwan lines see $900 million profit in ?10

Taiwan lines see $900 million profit in Æ10    Taiwan's top two container shipping lines secured combined operating profits of nearly $900 million in 2010, according to financials released by the companies last week.
Evergreen Marine Corp., the Taiwan-listed arm of the Evergreen Group, had operating profit of $403.1 million last year, compared to a loss of $473 million in 2009. Revenue increased 39.9 percent to $3.5 billion.
EMC's results do not correspond completely with other publicly owned carriers because they are not consolidated with the other container shipping interests of the Evergreen Group, which includes Evergreen International S.A., Gaining Enterprise S.A., Greencompass Marine S.A., Italia Maritima S.P.A., Evergreen Marine (UK), Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong), and Evergreen Marine (Singapore), according to Alphaliner.
Meanwhile Yang Ming secured operating profit of $482.9 million in 2010, a huge reversal from the $524.1 million the line lost in 2009. Revenue increased 53.9 percent to $4.1 million.
Operational details were not made immediately available from either carrier. Evergreen Line is the world's fourth-largest liner carrier by fleet capacity, while Yang Ming is the 15th-largest.
