Taiwan lines suffer losses in 2011

   The Taiwanese liner carriers Evergreen Line and Yang Ming both posted losses in 2011, according to financial statements filed with the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
   Evergreen Marine Corp., said it had operating losses of $25.5 million, compared to the $2.9 million it made in 2010. Revenue fell 9.8 percent, to $505.7 million.
   The financial numbers from Evergreen Marine Corp., the Taiwan-listed arm of the Evergreen Group, don’t correspond completely with other publicly owned carriers because they are not consolidated with the other container shipping interests of the Evergreen Group, which includes Evergreen International S.A., Gaining Enterprise S.A., Greencompass Marine S.A., Italia Maritima S.P.A., Evergreen Marine (UK), Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong), and Evergreen Marine (Singapore).
   Yang Ming said it lost $361.4 million from operations in 2011, after making $440 in operating profits in 2010.
   The line’s revenue in 2011 was $3.2 billion, 12.4 percent lower than in 2010.
