Tampa port, Expeditors school importers Tampa-area importers and prospective importers turned out for an advanced importing seminar hosted Friday by the Port of Tampa and conducted by a specialist from the forwarder-broker and logistics services company Expeditors International of Washington Inc.
   Garth Atchley, senior manager of import compliance services in the U.S. for the company's Expeditor Tradewin LLC unit, conducted a day-long seminar for about 50 local import professionals, including other customs brokers and officials from carriers and other logistics services companies. Expeditors is based in Seattle but has a Tampa office.

Port of Tampa Director Richard Wainio, at podium, welcomed some 50 attendees at a training session on import compliance held Friday at the Tampa Port Authority building.

   Atchley covered a range of import compliance issues, including audit defense and valuation strategies, preparations for conducting an internal audit, and creating an import manual.
