Tanker runs aground in New York The U.S. Coast Guard reports Liberian-flag tanker White Sea ran aground in Ambrose Channel at about 6:30 a.m. today.
   The Coast Guard said the 800-foot-long ship, owned by Tanker Pacific Co., was outbound from Bayonne, N.J., carrying a load of 455,000 barrels of low sulfur fuel and is resting on a hard sandy bottom.
   There is no spill, and the double-hull ship has deployed its own boom as a precautionary measure, said Annie Berlin, a Petty Officer Third Class with the Coast Guard. She said tugs and a Coast Guard boat are on scene.
   The Maritime Association of New York and New Jersey believed an attempt would be made to free the ship at high tide. The ship is expected to go to Gravesend Bay in Brooklyn for a survey after being refloated.
