TBS International Limited said second quarter profit was $52.6 million, compared to $21.7 million in the same 2007 period.

   Revenue was $156.9 million for the quarter, compared to $76.7 million in the period one year earlier.

   It was 'the best quarter in our company's history,' said Joseph E. Royce, chairman and chief executive officer and president, in a statement.

   He said to meet customer requirements the company took delivery of eight vessels during the first six months of this year and has two additional vessels under contract for delivery within the next 30 days. Those deliveries will expand the TBS fleet to 46 vessels, comprising 23 multipurpose tweendeckers and 23 handymax and handysize bulk carriers.
