Team Worldwide owner dead at 80

Industry icon Joe Brunson founded the Winnsboro, Texas-based freight forwarder Team Worldwide in 1979.

   Joe Earl Brunson, founder and owner of freight forwarder Team Worldwide, passed away at home in Winnsboro, Texas on May 4 at the age of 80.
   The Airforwarders Association characterized Brunson as an “a true icon who contributed so much to the freight forwarding industry and his company” in a statement.
   Brunson was born July 5, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to the late Glenn F. and Alma Lou Garrison Brunson. He was married to Joyce Brunson, who predeceased him, for nearly 60 years and they raised three children together.
   In addition to his work as the founder and owner of Team Worldwide, Brunson was founder and chairman of Purley Gates Retreat, a board member of BTH-Bank Texas, and a member of Clearwater Baptist Church.
   He is survived by his children, Bobby Joe Brunson, Katherine Ann Rulison and Kimberly Joyce Wineinger, six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
   Per the Dallas Morning News, visitation will be held Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro with funeral services following on Monday, May 4, 2105 at 2:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Purley Gates Retreat, P.O. Box 147 Winnsboro, TX 75494.
