TIACA taps aviation veteran Zubkov as new chief

The International Air Cargo Association appointed Vladimir Zubkov as its new secretary general, who was most recently vice president of the Volga-Dnepr Group.    The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), which represents interests across the industry from air carriers and forwarders to ground handlers, has named Vladimir Zubkov as its new secretary general. He replaces Doug Brittin, who will retire at the end of the year.
   Zubkov is a 40-year aviation veteran, who most recently was vice president of the Volga-Dnepr Group, the Russian all-cargo airline operator. He has been a TIACA board member since 2011 and active on the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group and the International Air Transport Association’s Industry Affairs Committee.
   TIACA’s priorities include making sure that new regulations around the world are implemented in a uniform fashion across the industry; growing membership in under-represented regions such as the Far East, Middle East, Latin America and Africa; and continuing to push for greater industry adoption of electronic freight documentation, with the help of international trade organizations, regional development banks and other groups, Zubkov said.
   Before joining Volga-Dnepr in 2008, Zubkov spent more than 20 years with the International Civil Aviation Organization, where he was director of the Air Transport Bureau and later director of planning and global coordination.
   Zubkov worked with Aeroflot for ten years, and began his career at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport. He has a master’s degree in Air Transport Management from the Civil Aviation Academy of Leningrad.
   Zubkov has led working groups focusing on the introduction of a paperless environment for cargo transportation in both Russia and the Asia Pacific region. Globally, he has helped with the development and implementation of projects involving communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management satellite-based technology.
   “Vladimir’s wealth of experience in both the private and regulatory sectors will prove invaluable to TIACA, whose mission is to bring the entire global air cargo community together,” TIACA Chairman Sanjiv Edward said in a statement.
