Tideworks installs OCR system at Port of Portland’s main terminal

Tideworks installs OCR system at Port of PortlandÆs main terminal Seattle-based terminal management firm Tideworks Technology Inc. said last week the Port of Portland has successfully implemented a gate Optical Character Recognition system at the port's primary container facility.
   It was the second phase of a project designed to streamline gate processing and improving truck turn-times at the port's Terminal 6, said Tideworks in a press release. The company also provides the gate operating system for the terminal, served as the systems integrator and project manager for the OCR implementation.
   'The implementation of gate OCR was seamless, and has improved processing times by an additional 25 to 30 percent,' said Lee Roundtree, general manager of marine operations for the Port of Portland.
   Roundtree also said that in combination with the Tideworks' GateVision gate operating software, the OCR system 'represents a huge gain in efficiency versus the manual method, and, ultimately has allowed us to increase Terminal 6's processing capacity significantly and continue to grow the container business at the Port of Portland.'
   Camco Technologies of Belgium provided hardware for the Tidework's implementation of the Portland OCR system.
