Toledo gets “Buy America” waiver to buy harbor cranes
Ohio’s Toledo Port Authority has received a waiver from the 2009 American Recovery Reinvestment Act’s “Buy America” requirement to purchase overseas-built mobile harbor cranes.The Federal Highway Administration’s “Buy America” policy requires a domestic manufacturing process for any steel or iron products that are permanently included in a federal-aid construction project.
However, recipients may apply for waivers when satisfactory domestic steel and iron products are not sufficiently available.
“Based on all the information available to the agency, the FHWA concludes that there are no domestic manufacturers for the mobile harbor cranes,” the agency said in a Federal Register notice published Tuesday.
