Peters, who was director of the Arizona Department of Transportation before being nominated by President Bush as Federal Highway Administrator, plans to return to Phoenix to be with her family.
The DOT credited Peters with helping to develop innovative private financing schemes for road projects, encouraging the use of new technologies that reduce construction time and expense and result in safer, longer-lasting technologies and working on streamlining the decision-making process for major transportation projects.
